since my father's death i have been doing awful with drawing. i can't bring myself to make art. i feel like i lost something. i can't understand it—i still can't.

this is the first piece since my father's death that feels like i'm back in my own skin.

i have been playing assassin's creed lately to pass the time. when i was a teenager, i loved ac very much. altaïr was my favourite as a teen. i think it's the rage and helplessness that we share that made me identify with him. i couldn't afford the games as a kid so i'd spend hours just watching walkthroughs, looking at fanarts, and reading fanfictions. years later and now as an adult, i'm playing ac unity that i got on a whim when it was on sale. i think i'll purchase ac1 when it's on sale later. for now, i will indulge my past self by playing as a french man doomed by the narrative.

Watched Ubisoft’s gameplay walkthrough of Star Wars Outlaws and I’ve got mixed feelings. Like on the one hand it seems like they’re trying to do the whole nobody/underdog story similar to Firefly which I would be so down for (I will still sing Firefly’s praises at the drop of a hat). On the other hand what was presented as gameplay feels like Assassin’s Creed Unity/Syndicate with those running and crouching animations. Even the combat felt very similar to those two Assassin’s Creed games with their free aiming pistols. Which leads me to wonder how buggy it will be on launch. Not that I’ve ever gotten a game on launch day for almost a decade now but I just worry that this will be an Assassin’s Creed game with a Star Wars skin.

Château de Versailles “Memories of Versailles”; “High Society”; “Bottom of the Barrel”

HISTORY: 

The Palace of Versailles did not start off as a palace, but rather a hunting lodge that was built by King Louis XIII in 1623. His heir, King Louis XIV, famously known as "The Sun King", expanded the hunting lodge from 1661–1678 and converted it into his seat of power. Versailles became the royal center of governance until King Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette were forced to move to Paris in 1789, during the events of the French Revolution.

IN AC UNITY: 

The Palace of Versailles is where Arno's story begins. 8 year-old Arno visits the Château with his father, Charles Dorian, who is tragically murdered there by the Master Templar, Shay Cormac (Sequence 01, Memory 01: “Memories of Versailles”). It is an event that haunts Arno for the rest of his life, but his tragedies in the Château de Versailles do not end there, when 13 years later, it also becomes the site of the murder of his guardian and father-figure, François de la Serre (Sequence 01, Memory 03: “High Society”).

Arno revisits the Château years later, after being excommunicated from the Assassin Brotherhood, to retrieve his stolen pocket-watch from a gang of raiders (Sequence 11, Memory 1: “Bottom of the Barrel”).

Pont Neuf PROLOGUE: “The Tragedy of Jacques de Molay”

HISTORY: 

Pont Neuf, literally "New Bridge", is a misleading name because it is the oldest standing bridge in Paris, built in the 16th Century. The equestrian statue that stands at the bridge is of King Henry IV. The statue was destroyed in 1792 during the French Revolution, but was rebuilt in 1818.

IN AC UNITY: 

After Arno passes his initiation into the Parisian Assassin's Brotherhood, Pont Neuf also is the area where the player begins their free-roam in Paris.

If you take the staircase down from the King Henry IV statue to the Square du Vert-Galant park, and turn around to face the bridge structure, you will spot a plaque commemorating the area where Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, was executed by burning at the stake, an incident which we witnessed in the “Assassin’s Creed Unity” Prologue.
